چکیده

Background Coarctation of the aorta (CoA) affects about 4 out of every 10,000 babies born and requires lifelong followup. Even after successful early repair, late cardiovascular (CV) complications arise. In adult patients, left ventricular remodeling (LVR) patterns can predict CV risk. However, few studies on LVR of CoA patients exist due to lack of detailed geometric models. The Cardiac Atlas Project (CAP), a worldwide consortium for pooling standardized analyses of cardiac images for mapping heart shape and motion, provides a unique opportunity to study CoA cardiac remodeling. This study compares LV shape in a sample of CoA patients preand post-stent to normal patients from the CAP with the goal of developing model-based predictions of LVR to guide clinical management.

Acquired Infrarenal Abdominal Aortic Coarctation: Treatment with Percutaneous Self Expandable Stent

Abdominal aortic coarctation is an extremely rare vascular pathology. Its etiology can be congenital or acquired. Here we present a case of acquired infrarenal abdominal coarctation in a 66-year-old woman who complained of low back and legs pain. She had no signs of resting lower limb ischemia, with diminished distal pulses and normal blood pressure in upper and lower extremities. Magnetic reso...

Three Different Imaging Modalities of a Patient with the Aortic Coarctation

The patient was a 19 year-old woman with the diagnosis of resistant hypertension, although she was under treatment of three classes of anti-hypertensive drugs (beta blocker, angiotensin receptor blocker, diuretic) for more than one year. In physical examination there was only a significant difference between the systolic blood pressure of upper and lower extremities (200 vs. 120 mmHg), without ...

Native aortic coarctation stenting in adults and adolescents: early and mid-term results of an adult interventional cardiology team

Background: Stent implantation has evolved as an important therapeutic strategy for aortic coarctation. Aim: This study aimed to present the experience of aortic coarctation stenting using the Cheatham-Platinum stent by an Adult Interventional Cardiology Team. Material and methods: The data of 11 patients (ages were between 15 to 58 years) who underwent aortic coarctation stent implantation bet...

Speckle tracking for cardiac MRI in patients pre and post dilation and stent implantation of aortic coarctation

Background Current assessment techniques for regional contractility require cardiac magnetic resonance-tagged or strain encoded imaging sequences and their analysis is complex. A new steady-state free precession cine sequence (SSFP) based technique called feature tracking can readily be performed on standard SSFP sequences. To test the feasibility of feature tracking in patients with coarctatio...

Transcatheter stent implantation to treat aortic coarctation in infancy.

A ten week old girl who had previously undergone a palliative procedure for the hypoplastic left heart syndrome had unrelieved aortic coarctation that did not respond to standard balloon dilatation. Complete relief of coarctation with prompt clinical improvement was achieved with placement of an 8 mm self-expanding stent. Transcatheter stent implantation may have a role in selected patients wit...
